Barca-Velha symbolises the superior quality of Douro wines and embodies their enormous potencial for ageing. Grace, personality and persistence are some of the adjectives winemakers use to describe what has been Portugal's most celebrated wine since its creation back in 1952. Barca-Velha is the crux upon which Casa Ferreirinha has built its reputation as one of the leading references of quality wines in the Douro.
A deep ruby colour, Barca-Velha is an incredibly intense and complex wine with predominantly shrubby notes of olive leaf and olive paste, alongside black fruit, spices, black pepper, cedar and tobacco box. It has a touch of minerality and a discrete, well-integrated wood element. Powerful on the palate, it has a vibrant acidity, lively tannins and further notes of spices and red fruit, which invite a lingering finish of great elegance.
